#14 Rufus Porter I
|
Rufus Porter was an intinerant wall muralist
who traveled throughout New England in the
early to mid-1800's painting murals in homes
and taverns. His murals were of landscapes
characterized by large trees in the foreground
reaching from floor to ceiling, with several
levels of diminishing subject matter to create
his own unique perspective. Rufus Porter was
truly the father of modern American folk art
and his influence can be readily seen in the
works of many modern folk artists
